The History of Liberty Aluminum Co.
Liberty Aluminum Co. has a long and exciting history in the aluminum industry that’s certainly worth noting. Liberty Aluminum Co. was founded in 1993 in Ft. Myers, Florida, by Mr. James E. Lowndes. In those days, there were only several companies in the area that were specializing to the building contractors needs and Mr. Lowndes saw an opportunity to target that market. The following is a chronological order of events that track Liberty Aluminum’s humble beginnings to its present day status.
As you can see the company has come a long way since 1993. Not only have we expanded our customer base over the years, we’ve expanded our product line as well.
Liberty Aluminum Co. has an impressive background in its history, its size, and its product line. But what is really impressive are its people. 2025: Liberty Aluminum was named Large Business of the Year at the Industry Appreciation Awards, presented by the Horizon Council, Horizon Foundation, and Lee County Economic Development Office in October. This honor recognizes our growth, innovation, and commitment to the community – made possible by our incredible team, partners, and customers.2025: Liberty Aluminum was recognized in September with the Sand Dollar Awards – the highest accolade presented annually by the Collier Building Industry Association and Sales & Marketing Council. This year, we proudly took home awards in two categories: Best Specialty Feature for a Custom Arched Trellis, and Best Outdoor Area for a Custom Screen Enclosure.
2025: Liberty Aluminum was honored at the 2025 Lee BIA’s Hype Awards in July, winning best screen enclosure contractor. Thank you to our general contractor customers who nominated us.
2024: Liberty Aluminum was honored with the “Subcontractor of the Year” award at the Lee Building Industry Association’s (Lee BIA) Summit Awards! This recognition is a true testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion that drives our team every day.
2024: Liberty Aluminum was honored at the 2024 Aluminum Association of Florida Construction Awards, winning 1st Place for a single-story screen enclosure and both 1st and 2nd Place for welded shutters.
2023: Liberty celebrates 30 years of business in Southwest Florida by hosting a company picnic for their employees and their families. As well as sponsoring Lee BIA Bricks & Sticks Fishing Tournament, school fundraisers, and local charities.2023: Liberty Aluminum hires first-ever Marketing & Business Development Manager, Colette Pate, to develop their digital presence, further relationships with current customers and prospect new customers.
2023: Jim Guerin, Vice President of Liberty Aluminum retires after 30 years of dedication and excellence. We thank him for his commitment to our customers and the vision of Liberty Aluminum.
2021: Liberty Aluminum Co. invoiced sales exceeded $11 Million.
2019: J. D. Guerin III became an owner of Liberty Aluminum Co.
2018: Liberty Aluminum Co. invoiced sales once again exceeded $10 Million.
2017: Liberty updates technology to improve customer experience, including website, social media, and GPS in company vehicles to improve scheduling.
2014: Liberty increases community sponsorships in events such as the Ronald McDonald House charities and the Golisano Children’s Hospital golf fundraiser.
2012: Liberty Aluminum Co. restructured the divisions and added additional product lines such as Glass Railing & Cable Railing.
2011: JD Guerin is appointed Vice President of Sales and Marketing to oversee business development and estimating.
2010: Liberty Aluminum Co. was able to downsize during the “Great Recession” to a level of $3.5 Million and survive during this difficult period in the economy.
2008: Liberty Aluminum Co. expanded the geographical area that they are serving to include all of Southwest Florida; Bradenton/Tampa south through Sarasota/Ft. Myers down to Naples/Marco Island.
2006: Liberty Aluminum Co. formed a Canopies & Solar Control Device Product Line.
2006: Liberty Aluminum Co. principles founded United Engineering Services Corp. to facilitate company specific engineering.
2005: Liberty Aluminum Co. invoiced sales exceeded $10 Million and full time employees number over 100.
- 2003: Liberty Aluminum Co. divided company into divisions: Soffit & Fascia, Pool Screen Enclosures, Condo Screen & Rail, Ornamental, Carports.
2002: Liberty Aluminum Co. built their current facility (38,000 sq. ft.) in Lehigh Acres, Florida.- 2000: Liberty Aluminum Co. invoiced sales exceeded $4 Million.
1998: Liberty Aluminum Co. invoiced sales exceeded $2 Million.
- 1998: Liberty Aluminum Co. outgrew their current facilities on Craig St. and moved into a larger facility on Hanson St., in Ft. Myers.
- 1997: Liberty Aluminum Co. began manufacturing “welded” ornamental railings, grills & gates.
1996: James D. Guerin became an owner of Liberty Aluminum Co.1995: Liberty Aluminum Co. invoiced sales exceed $1 million because of high quality products and services and superior customer service.
1993: James E. Lowndes founded Liberty Aluminum Co. & incorporated in Ft. Myers, Florida.
